Am I Missing Something?

Over at Kenzer & Company I barely noticed they even got the new Hacklopedia in print and shipped it out (I guess) last Thursday.  I've been checking in every now and then to see if it has shipped and I found nothing on their main page.  In fact the Hacklopedia is at the bottom of the page.  Maybe I am being a little short with this, but it kind of irks me.  They wanted people to plop down a good chunk of money ahead of time for this book, but have done very little to keep people informed of its progress.  And from the looks of their main page they have moved onto the next thing (the new players handbook).  Maybe this information is spelled out in the forums (which I glanced at), but I would think it was important enough to let the buyers know on the main webpage.

Don't know why but lately Kenzer & Company has been pissing me off a bit.  I have been a huge supporter of their products, systems and ganzo attitude, but not lately.  There seems to be a disconnect or at least with me.  I see their new product they are shleping is the New Players Handbook and normally I would be very interested in it, but I gotta say this time I think I'll pass.  Considering they are supposed to supporting HackmMaster Basic, I'm not sure how a 400+page PHB goes with it.

But like I said in my title, maybe I am missing something.

  1. I always though it'd be nice if game designers and companies had little production blogs where they could check in and fire off a quick little message about the status of their projects. I think fans and customers might enjoy that quite a bit.

  2. Yeah some do, but it would nice if more would make the effort.

  3. HackMaster Basic was just to give everyone a feel for the New HackMaster, of which the Hacklopedia is the first book for and the Player's Handbook is the second. And I agree it would have been nice if they made such an announcement of it shipping on the web site. Instead they've been talking about it on the forums which is where most of the information is put these days. It is also where those who've put the money down on the PHB are discussing the layout and rules in said book (combo editors and final round play testing) as it gets laid out.

  4. Wasn't there a death in the family? I'd imagine that would preoccupy your thoughts. It's probably affecting the business given it's such a small operation.

  5. Christian > That's why I like Matt doing his blog for S&W. Forums are annoying.

    Brian > Agreed.

Lord Mal > Never knew that. When I bought it I thought it was a stripped down version.

Rob S > No idea if there was or not. Still I would think if this product you'd been hyping final came back from the prints you might mention it.

  6. They just came home from a Con, got their shipment and began sending the Hacklopedias out on Thursday. Have patience, they were working hard this week, without a rest. I'm sure the news will be put up on Monday. And the book can be found now in the store too.

  7. Jolly and Barbara Blackburn recently lost their daughter, Amber, so I imagine that they have been somewhat pre-occupied and perhaps took their eyes of the ball, at least as far as the RPG industry is concerned. Who could blame them?

  8. Then I did completely miss something and understand. How sad. Sorry to hear of their loss.
