Submissions Open!

As of today, Boric G of the Dwarven Stronghold, Ken Harrison of The Rusty Battle Axe, Sean Robson of Tales from the Flaming Faggot and myself have formed Pulp Mill Press.

We are announcing that Pulp Mill Press is putting a fiction anthology together, short stories in the tradition of Appendix N, called Libram Mysterum.

We are looking for short stories with interesting characters and innovative plots.  If you are interested in submitting a story please read the guidelines first.  While all of us are very excited about the project, it is a lot of work, and following the guidelines will help streamline the process.

If you have any questions you can contact any one of us or email Pulp Mill Press at pulpmillpress4@gmail.com.

That's my official announcement.  On a more personal note this project came about on a whim, a wanting for more fiction like I used to read as a kid.  Today's fantasy fiction isn't something that speaks to me.  I used to eat my old fantasy books as soon as I bought them.  Today I'm lucky if I can get through the first chapter or two.  I'm not saying the fiction is bad, it just isn't for me.  This is a chance to get a large group of similar, well read individuals to produce new work based on a tradition that got us into gaming or inspired our gaming.   A real homage to Appendix N.

But this project couldn't have gone forward without the excitement of others and their willingness to do the work.  I'm hoping all the writers out there will submit a story or two.  We aren't sure how many stories will be in this volume, I'm guessing around fifteen.  And if you do have any question please just drop any one of us a line or all of us at pulpmillpress4@gmail.com.

We are waiting for your story.

  1. What? No supernatural romance! You mean I can't launch my series about a tough but sexy Tiefling detective with a doomed love for a brooding, hunky beholder? Ah well.

    Seriously though, sounds fun.

  3. Sell it to Hollywood, Trey, sell it to Hollywood. As long as the beholder sparkles you can't lose. :)

  5. Great motivation Tim. Started working on a short story that I had some ideas about for awhile. It has far too much gore I'm thinking for what you are looking for, but I've been doing nothing but idea seeds and revising old work lately and your call for material has me writing new stuff again. I'd love to send something in but I am a blood and guts writer and just don't think anything I can come up with will meet your guidelines.

I am looking forward to seeing what gets published.

    1. Please don't let a little gore get in your way. Send it in Jason!

"You want to send it in. You'll put in the mailbox this week. These are not the droids...whoops"

  7. (just saw this and...)

Dude: how can you cite Smith, Vance, Howard, and Leiber and then but the nix on elements of sci-fi, horror, and supernatural romance? I prefer my short stories to include all three!

I don't know, man...sounds like the end result might be a little vanilla...

[wait, wait...sex is okay but no supernatural romance? Maybe I don't get this...is this just some kind of anti-Twilight clause? Because you could have just said that, man...]

    1. Ha, I knew someone was going to bust my balls on this one. Now remember we are just seeing what we get and trying this out. The group agreed to do more of a themed type anthology, this one focusing more on the fantasy elements, the next science fiction and so on. I'm hoping we get more of a vanilla taste to it. At least add some sprinkles man.

  8. I'm curious, but not sure if my style of writing would suit? Now, this isn't me being sneaky here, but I've a few stories on my blog: some short, some not so short, but why not have a read and see if I 'fit' into the style you speak, if not, then tell me so. I promise not to cry ;)
