Friday Question: And It's Not About D&D 5th/Next

If you could take two historical setting and smoosh them together to create a campaign, what two would they be?

At the time I think I would go with a declining Roman Empire mixed with sixties space race.  I think those two elements would be a lot of fun to play off of one another.

Have an absolutely fantastic Friday.  And if you can't have one of those, have a couple Saturdays and don't call me in the morning.

  1. Viet Nam war with the Roman campaign to recover the Eagles from Germany against Arminius.

  2. I guess the Romans would be racing against the Persians. Or perhaps in the modern era of the Roman Empire it would be a race against the Chniese Empire.

  3. All of the ideas presented so far sound great.

I tend to more like to mashup historical eras with the fantastic (like my 1905 American-Muvian War thing, or the Age of Exploration in a pulpy Burroughs solar system). I might say something like Arthurian Britain recast as Feudal Japan.

  4. The Mongol Invasions and the Dot Com Bubble. I mean, clearly, Kublai Khan ran AOL for a while there. You could run it with ACKS.

  5. Good question!

I think that I'd probably go for Iron Age Ireland mashed up with Sengoku-era Japan. First, those are my favorite two eras period. Second, the clash of Éireann clans, Cruithne clans, Nihonji clans, and maybe even hidden Emishi clans (and the alliance of all of them with each other, too) just seems like it would be super fruitful for adventure. Maybe the whole thing would be under a weak and ineffectual Emperor who can't maintain control of the Éireann, Cruithne, and Emishi, and has lost many of the Nihonji. As a result, clan chieftains are battling for control, and maybe trying to gain control of the Emperor himself.

  6. American Civil War + Zombies. Which is strange because I'm really not a zombie guy. But that's the first idea that popped into my head.
