Word Verification Off
I've been meaning to do this for a while, turn off word verification. I know it's a pain and I'll keep it off as long as I don't start getting hit with a lot of spam. No more reading words that look like they were written by a drunk person with a good vocabulary. No more losing your comment because of an error during the verification. And no more time wasters developed because some wank needs to splash an advertisement no one is going to 'go see' all over the web. So in the next four years I will...

Cool. I tried shutting it off myself back during the summer. As it turns out, I've only gotten two pieces of spam in six or seven months. As long as it stays that way, I'll be keeping my security verification turned off.
ReplyDeleteI'm not so distracted by that picture I can't write a comment.
ReplyDeleteOr a second one even.
ReplyDeleteI've thought about turning it off, but just assumed I'd get deluged. Given Bard's experience (did someone say XP?), maybe there's no real trouble.
Anyway, here you might not notice the spam in among my comments.
Never used word verification on my site and hardly ever get spammed (like Bard, maybe one or twice every six months).
ReplyDeleteViewing your site on my iPod Touch, the woman's chainmail is as good as invisible and for a moment I really thought you'd posted a totally NSFW, full-frontal nude on your site (complete with lady bits on display)!!!
I turned it off about two or three months ago, and haven't gotten any spam since then.
ReplyDeleteJust keep the spammers XP counts up, see if the NPC's can beat us human posters.
ReplyDeleteThat's some picture, I get some spam but the folder collects it and I delete it....
ReplyDeleteI really despise the whole word verification hooha myself, hmm so if the water is fine...
ReplyDeleteBut Word Verification provides the best monster names.
ReplyDeleteJudging by what I'm hearing here, I'll shut it off on mine, as well.
ReplyDeleteAlso, nice picture.
Flipped the switch on mine just now.
ReplyDeleteAs with the others, maybe I'll switch mine off. Perhaps that's what keeps some from posting comments; I know it's turned me off a time or two.
ReplyDeleteThanks for being the dire guinea pig for us all, Tim!
Yep, I turned mine off back during the A to Z Challenge last April. One of the writers there suggested doing this to improve the number of comments.
ReplyDeleteAs it turns out, the spam filter catches all the spam, and my blog is low enough traffic that there's barely any spam at all. In fact, I think the last two "spam" comments weren't actual spam, they just triggered the filters.
Word verification is a good idea for other sites, but I don't see that it's needed for Blogger.
I feel like I should have made lunch for everyone. Didn't know this many would show up.
ReplyDeleteI know Christian hasn't had it on his site, Destination Unknown, and always appreciated the ease of it. Not sure why it took so long.
Thank You Thank You Thank You!!
ReplyDeleteTwo of those were for removing the word verification.. the third for the pic :) I thought it was a naked chick when I first looked as well.
I really hate word verification. I've never used it on my own site and haven't really had any problem. When I do get spam, it comes in small waves (except for the past 3 days where I've gotten over 300 spam comments). Bet every one has been caught by my spam filter and I merely hit "empty spam" and they all go away. None have ever made it through to the site, and so far I've never seen a false positive.
ReplyDeleteThe password thingy can be a right pain in the neck, your better off without it, quite like the nice young lady in your pic....better off without it!!
ReplyDeleteShe's got really nice err... boots.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason your chainmail pic didn't show up on my reader. Thank GOD I stopped by to check my XP.
ReplyDeleteLot's o' comments too, I see.
