Let's Get Weird

And let's face it, those of you reading my blog have already passed getting weird. However, I wanted to spotlight Weird Adventures by Trey Causey. He's the maestro behind From the Sorcerer's Skull blog and long time member of the dubious and infamous group of RPG Publishers known as The Hydra Cooperative.

I've had the absolute pleasure to be in a game where Trey ran Weird Adventures. If you're looking for a pulp setting with lots of crazy stuff worked in seamlessly, this is it. It reads like entries in Atlas Obscura. A road map through this weird setting. Make no mistake, this is a setting all on its own. And it is a blast.

Normally the PDF runs $10, but today it's only $4. But I'm telling you just go for a physical copy. This is one of those gaming books that's a great read.

I bought Weird Adventures nine years ago. It still sits on my prime shelf next to me when I game. It's that good.

And if you don't believe me I wrote a review about Weird Adventures in 2012 give it a read.

Borisville, Population One at a Time

So we combine team victory.  All men present.  Even Don.  He say he found a woman 'out of town'.  Boris never understood shiny suited people.  With no angel horn.  Travel to Hew Hazard's lab and find it under attack.  Put heart spring there because we thought it safe.  We were wrong.  Automatons there.

Don snaps.  Drive car into metal man nearly kills himself.  He say he meant to do it as he put fire out in hair.  Inside lab big tunnel.  Metal men burrowed into lab.  Smart.  Find Hew Hazard and he say heart spring gone.  Boris does not look surprised.  Hew okay, give Boris and others electric guns and two grenades.  To all those out there, to get on Boris good side, give guns, grenades or whiskey.  No need wrapping.

Into tunnel Team Victory go.  Erskine surprise us all when he speak.  Forgot he was there.  Good to have him.  Find conduit running through tunnel.  Metal men sip electricity like suckling baby.  Find transformer and blow it up.  Tell others to look away, but they say what instead of shutting eye.  Blind.

Three people come in tunnel look what happen.  Boris toss grenade.  Kill one.  Stun other two.  Boris make quick work of one with Ivanka.  Leave one alive.  Cornelius ask question.  Man get mouthy.  Boris apply crowbar.  Man more agreeable.  Boris demonstrate anatomy lesson of crowbar vs. spine.

More tunnel.  Then chanting.  Big fight.  Metal men and the Master and big swirling thing.  Boris send metal men to Borisville.  A place many visit, but few return.  Shooting evrywhere.  Erskin and Cornelius and Don and Boris light up tunnel with electrical fire and the smoke from gunpowder.  Make Boris homesick.

In the end the Master had many sided cube.  Boris shoot out of hand.  Don take disintegration rod away from Master and destroy many sided cube.  Team Victory walk out of tunnel.  This when Boris realize, guy who pay us is one who started this.  Probably no pay.  His brain going bad.  Hew happy it over.  He pay us.  Boris happy.  Go buy more bullets and whiskey.  Maybe buy new gun.  Name it after mother, Dominika.

Leave the Cat, Grab the Horn

Boris does not like apartment building with invisible membrane.  Makes nervous might not get out.  Cornelius and Boris try to find information about building, but find little.  Ask neighbors, onemention a meteor storm a month back.  That it, guess we go in with crowbar and chair.

Superintendent of building, Bookman, still nursing the bottle of Old Panther Boris give him.  A little disappointed.  He seem like a man who can handle booze.  Bookman just drunk.

Check basement and see monster.  It move around invisible world.  Boris retreat and scavenge chemicals out of closet in case Ivanka's charms fail to impress.

Move to 1st floor.  Dead man's apartment had tins of food all over.  Find cat. Cornelius have way with cat.  Keep cat.  Cat may know when monster comes.

Next meet women.  Boris likes the ladies, but on business.  No time for Boris to play.  Man with big hair next door with spellbook try to sacrifice us.  We decide not to.  Cornelius out Boris, Boris.  Pin old man to the ground with gun in face.  Make Boris laugh.

Get attacked by Golliwog dolls.  Lots of them.  Ivanka shreds dolls.  Boris know this will cause nightmare later.

Find jazz man.  Find horn.  We take horn.  Seemed to expect.

Still can't leave.  Door held shut.  Cornelius blows horn and passes out.  Windows break, door opens, Boris pick up horn and Cornelius, but leave cat.

Mingus there.  Says horn no good.  Angels come for it.  Boris not like Mingus.  Boris not like Mingus even a little.  He tells us things we need to destroy.  Boris just wants to hit Mingus in head with horn.

Boris Starts a Fire

Lenny a good man.  A Big man.  Not a smart man.  But a good man.  Met with this Waxy Malroon.  Boris know something about this man.  No touch or skin melt.  While Boris never see such a thing, Boris would prefer to keep it that way.  Remind Lenny no touch Waxy.

Before this we go to club.  Club where rich people talk about being rich and how to be richer and laugh at not funny jokes.  He talk to rich man, we try to trick him into thinking things, by saying things and Erskin read his mind.  No work.  Erskin pretends to be reporter.  Does good job.  Make Boris laugh.  Erskin make good repporter one day.  Still no information.

Back to Waxy and Lenny.  Still no touch.  They meet at Duppy Jones.  I tape gun in bathroom.  You never know.  Boris think gun in bathroom is better than no gun in bathroom.  Boris go early find spot and wait for Waxy and his goons.  They arrive take Lenny into back and then into warehouse.  Erskin does his mind thing.  He pushes his forehead forward when thinking hard.

Boris need to make distraction.  Throw brick.  Later need to make other distraction.  Start fire.  Fire not go so well.  Boris need to work on fire setting.  Should be better by now.  Lenny make break with half metal man.  Head back to Heyward's secret apartment.  Boris find it funny that a brain and two metal men stay there now.

Grease Lake only clue we have to go on.  Boris know something about this.  A little.  Location at least.  Need to find clue or we sit in room and stare at phone that does not ring.

Game Night Glitches

Our Monday game session was riddled with technical difficulties.  Fantasy Grounds was being cranky, Rob's IP address kept changing, skype would go in and out, personal computers were being rebooted by ghosts, and Bug was attacking me as I was battling an owlbear.  She has no danger sense.  We emailed maps instead of shared them on FG, we rolled real dice and virtual dice, we sometimes had to roll for someone else because of their computer freezing.  And I believe their was something mention about bards performing fellatio.  While not a technical difficulty it was something we did not need to know.

Despite the horde of glitches it was a good time.  We pushed through.  We had a short time to adventure and had some fun.  I'm playing a son of a forester who was kicked out of the village because he tried to help people, but didn't think it through.  He's not worldly and often believes what people tell him, but he has an internal sense of what is right and wrong, but he often gets into trouble in these cases.  He respects those above his station and refers to them in cases where even he may know better.  And he has a dog named Red.

Update on The Manor.  I've enlisted the assistance of Rob Conely to help me finish the map.  I drew it up, I like it, but when I tried to number the locations it didn't look good or was unreadable.  So I defer to the old carto pro.  He'll teach me a few mapping tricks.  Anyway.  If you look at my previous post and see those blue section, especially the one in the northeast corner, it is not water.  It's a new mineral I've concocted called blue coal.  I'll do a write up on it in my GM Games blog.  If you haven't joined the blog please go on over.  I want to build a email list for those who join that blog and once in a while I am planning to shoot out freebies and just stuff to those members.  Anyway, I am liking the direction the issue is going.  I also found out I can squeeze in two more page in to the fold increasing the size of the zine from 24 to 32.  Which I'll need.

Tonight, its Weird Adventures with Trey.  Boris got into a robot fight last time and luckily was not wearing a pink shirt.

Clubb'n Lunitics : Boris Finds a Hobby

Storm outside.  Rich people inside.  Homicidal maniac somewhere.  Boris in the hallway on chair waiting for screaming to begin.  Rich lady say she want to go to library.  Can't sleep.  Boris go with despite rich lady protest.  Once Boris explain homicidal maniac on loose, rich lady more agreeable.

Lawyer man comes into library and asks to speak with rich lady.  Lawyer man paying bills so Boris step outside, but knows only bad things happen when Boris not around.  Rich lady scream.  Boris rush in, find rich lady looking at bookshelf, "He was just right there."  Boris look, but can't find shit.  Don and Erskin in house somewhere.  Boris put two bullets into a book too big for its own good.

Don find latch.  Weird secret passage.  Erskin finds body of lawyer man.  Boris should never leave room, only bad happens.  Weird wiggly tunnel is closed at other end.  Boris goes in.  Lawyer man was strangled.  Has open envelope in his pocket.  Hmm.  Push on other end of tunnel and opens to master bedroom where rich lady stay.  Take lawyer man downstairs.  Other rich people see Boris.  They want to call police.  Ha.  Like police do anything.  One man think Boris kill lawyer man.  No holes in him.  Boris innocent.

Now everyone in the library.  Boris babysit all the rich folk in one room while Don and Erskin search mansion.  Rich people don't like Boris.  Boris is indifferent.  When a shotgun blast tears open chest they bleed just as much as whiskey breathed bum in alley.  Boris like shotgun.  Indifferent.  Result same.

After sometime Don and Erskin return.  Boris might have napped because the constant whine from rich people make sleepy.  They think they know who bad guy is.  Boris suggest play good man, club you in the head man.  Don play good, Boris play club.

Don tries to talk to man, but does no good.  He too smooth.  Liquid words roll off tongue and fall on floor.  Boris turn.  Considers crowbar.  Instead tell the man he too good for such thing.  Punch him the stomach.  He take punch okay.  Boris little happy he no cry.  Help man up by hair.  Ask him other question.  Don't like answer.  Hmm, bang his head of counter to see if words just stuck in head.

Don come in with hands on head.  "What did you do?"  I say I play club man.  Clubbed him.  You bad at this if you no know how to play.  Noise from upstairs or in basement.  No of us there.  Lunatic is on loose.

Rejoin everyone in library.  Boris feel something bad happen.  After some slippery talk from Don and Erskin, we find man possessed.  Then maniac appears in the door.  Boris been waiting for him.  Introduce him to Ivanka.  Only shred his side.  Take crowbar and go after.  Little maniac man very tough.  Attack Boris despite Ivanka's hello.  Respect much for this crazy little man.  Boris step aside attack, club him in the other side then pin him to the floor with boot.

Erskin and Don have possessed man pinned to ground.  Take him downstairs to basement.  Some scary room with magic equipment.  Boris know this bad.  Very bad.  Erskin and Don find wiggly passage and connect with spirit world.  Convince spirits to take the spirit possessing man to where it belongs.  Ugly spirit.  Like a hundred legged spider.  Boris would have liked to have shot it.  Never shot big spider before.  Man okay.

Layer man only dead, but Boris still get paid.  Team Victory have won.  Boris have idea.  Take lunatic man and call paper.  Get publicity, like Heyward, for Team Victory.  Tell people we good team to hire.  Get job done.  Boris may even smile for camera.

Weird Adventures Contest!

Trey Causey, the man behind Weird Adventures is running a contest.  Here is what he's looking for.

Title: this should ideally be something pulpy and possibly hyperbolic.  The titles of the adventure seed boxed pieces in the book are good examples--and check out this old post on “weird menace” titles.
Tagline: a one sentence teaser like found on the contents page of some old pulp mags.
Set-up: a brief rundown of how the setting and situation of the adventure.
Highlights: a montage of the interesting/critical things in the adventure--important encounters, possible set-pieces, some evocative sensory fluff.

Ok, here’s a quick example:

“Burial On the Far Side of Hell”
An ancient plea brings the promise of riches and unimagined danger.
The Set-up: In a oddities museum, the PCs happen upon a Native mummy who puts out a psychic plea: “return me to my ancestral grounds for burial, and I'll show you the hidden riches of my people."  What the mummy does not know--and neither does anyone else--is that the road back now cuts through a dangerous stretch of badlands swallowed by a black dust elemental and crawling with black dust zombies.
Highlights: the fury of a malevolent storm; shambling, moaning zombies, all but invisible in the swirling, choking dust; an isolated town with desperate survivors are wholed up; a mad preacher fallen to worship of the demonic storm.

I love that example. I know I'm peculating a couple of ideas. I think its a great idea and a lot of fun.

All entries should be submitted by Monday September 17 at noon Eastern Time.  Email them to Trey at theinscrutabledr3 on gmail.

Back in Action

The Wednesday night Weird Tales group is back in action.  There is a slight line up change.  Kreskin took off with a woman.  But Team Victory does not stand still.  It evolves and adapts.  Enter the mentalist Erskine.  To Boris's dismay the replacement wore nice clothes and no gun...

Heyward sent Team Victory on another job after he tried to undercut our pay.  Our job, to attend the reading of the will for Cyrus Westerly.  Cyrus was planted ten years ago.  Something fishy about it.  Rich folk, who understands them?

We doive over to the mansion by the sea and spoke to the lawyerman.  While he speaks I'm paying attention to the servant lady.  She mentions something about spirits in the house.  I don't like spirits.  Five folks will arrive to listen to the reading of the will.  I'm here to make sure no one gets all fussy.  Flashlight is already duct taped to the barrel of Ivanka so I'm ready.

Our preliminary inspection of the room, the will is kept in a safe, Don found signs of someone who replaced a false frame around the safe.  He took it down and we found a crawl space.  Old mansions have crawlspaces.  Nothing new, but I still wanted to look.

The I-hope-to-be-rich folks come in.  All very fragile.  The men were more like women and the women were wisps.  Humanity is very disappointing.  Servent lady mentioned spirits again.

I don't like spirits.  You can't shoot them.  Ask servent lady what's good against spirits.  Rock salt.  I go to the kitchen.  No rock salt so load up with two pockets of table salt.  I'll make it up as I go.  While all this is happening I formulate in my mind what is about to happen.  The old man was a bad magic person, there are spirits all over the mansion, its ten years later, reading the will at the time and place of the old man's death.  The will is a spell and the spirits are going to possess us!

They read the will.  I stand as far away as possible with my hand in my pocket ready to throw salt.  Hmm, no spirits.  Sorta boring actually.  No one screams.  No one fights.  But, then we get the news there is a homocidial maniac on the loose.  This is more my style.

We search the basement.  The room full of toys creeped me out.  Spirits like to play with toys.  Rock in chairs.  And slam doors.  No homocidal maniac. Damn, can't catch a break.

People going to bed.  Storming outside.  No rest for Team Victory.  I grab a chair and put it outside the frail woman's bedroom that got rich tonight and wait for the screaming to begin.

SESSION END

A Good, but Quiet Week at the Manor

Quiet, but not silent.  Look at the excellent items I got in the mail last week.  I was going to do a review of them, but decided each needed its own spotlight so I'll do individual reviews of each one.  In short, they are all very good.

Gaming is back on Monday nights.  We're taking a break from the d20 world and tossing 3d6s around for GURPS.  One session in and we're playing a small group of mercenaries in a land that resembles a mixture of King Arthur and The Game of Thrones.  And sprinkle in some LOTR also.

Wednesday nights are gearing back up this week.  Trey is adding a couple players for his Weird Adventures campaign and we're switching from the Pathfinder system to the WaRP system.  I have no experience with WaRP.  Looking forward to seeing how it works.  And to get into more trouble and explore that wonderful City of Trey's.

Sales for the Manor continue to do well.  I think the first issue of the Manor is creeping toward a 150 sales.  And the second is slowly climbing toward a 100.  Not quite there yet, but its been interesting to see how many PDFs of Knowledge Illuminates has sold because of the Manor.

Starter Adventures is pretty much laid out.  I'll be sending it to a couple proofreaders this week.  Then grab a few pieces of art from Jason and it should be good to go.  I'm hoping to get it released by the end of August.

Well, time for work.  I'm looking forward to rolling some virtual dice tonight.

Edits Are Done!

Editing is one of those jobs that is a grind.  Tonight I finished editing 90 pages of Rob Conley's upcoming adventure Scourge of the Demon Wolf.  There is a ton of stuff packed in that adventure.  I edited 90 pages of text.  I tried to break it up in smaller bites, but that didn't work out so I took big gulps and got it finished.  We'll go over it again once he does the layout and goes through the edits.  Just double checking that numbers match and are there.

With that behind me I can move onto my next endeavor.  Getting Starter Adventures complete.  I need to get a couple of pieces of art, of which I need to figure out what I need and then do I finally read through.  I'm shooting for mid to the end of August to get it done.

While I'm doing that I've got some stuff for the next issue of The Manor to write down.  I need to get it out of my head and on paper.  I've had a couple of idea banging around up there for a while.

And lastly, the Monday night gaming group begins a new campaign.  Looking forward to it.  And I think this Wednesday Trey is starting up his Weird Adventures game again so I can break out Boris and has a shotgun full of fun.

Listen to the Guy with the Shotgun

Sometimes when your sitting in a room where its contents are more expensive than you'll ever make in a lifetime, you get a little pissy.  Sure lady the steak was good, the expensive wine tasted like wine and the big guy at the door I imagine doesn't look all that big when he's lying on the floor with two broken legs.  Then Mama V. flaunted her checkbook.  A salve to savage temperament.  "Bring Vivian to justice and I'll write you a check for any amount as long as its not ridiculous."

Creskin and Don were smoothing her over.  I think she would eat them both alive and spit out their shiny shoes, but it is amusing to listen to them.

We caught the boat men with some necromancer who needed a bath.  He said the body was John V.  Kept saying darling.  Greasy necromancer said he was betrayed by someone he loved.  I imagine that is not an uncommon experience with these rich folk.  After all was said and done, necromancer was helpful.  I liked that.  Mental noted.

Bliss was next on our visits.  After a big steak and wine I usually like to nap, not meet up with extraterrestrials in a city being consumed by another dimension.  But Boris is flexible.  I'll nap later.  Bliss came he wanted the glow ball Creskein had.  Lots of talking.  Lots of bargaining.  Bliss admitted it was Vivian who sent the gargoyles after us.  This is a theory Boris put out to the group.  They say, Boris go clean your shotgun.  Sometimes the shiny suits do as my mother used to say, "You can't put square thinking into round problem."  They think square.  Boris think all shapes until evidence forms shape.

Now we plan on confronting Vivian.  Don and Creskin talked about shooting her.  I've seen them shoot.  She should be fine.  Now Ivanka and I may take a turn, but its the gargoyles.  The gargoyles are the problem.  Where I am sure there is going to be surprises from the lady, I know the gargoyles can take a shotgun blast and barely flinch.  This does not fill one with confidence.

Last mission note.  Don keeps calling up Team Victory.  Making 'V' signs with his fingers.  I like this.  Makes me laugh.

The Dimension that Jack Built

Or I should say Trey built.

Last night, the full Weird Adventures crew gathered together after a few weeks of spotty attendance.  We continued our search for John Vandemaur.  We are trying to recover his body, but in truth we have no idea if he is even dead.  Boris has some thoughts...

Our investigation picked up with a visit to the Magic Library.  Creskin and Don looked through a book I couldn't read.  Looking at those two you would think they were a couple Nancy boys who would be terrified to piss in public.  But they got an edge.  Creskin tore out a page from a book.  Wild man.  That page ended up being some sort of door into a some sort of secret realm of Indrid Bliss.

We went in and there were holes in the floor with nothing but night sky filling them.  A floating giant head that mumbled and spit acid at Creskin.  It popped when I planted a bullet between its eyes.  Don was fascinated by the doors.  He was looking through one door and could see the back of us.  He kept doing it.  Never seen a man so interested in looking at his own ass before.

There was a door in the ceiling.   For them being mages they never seem to have a spell that helps.  I got a ladder from the hardware store nearby.  I forgot what happened next.  But we all got up there eventually into this other room.  Indrid's place.  We looked around.  Found some financial papers, a picture and another glowing orb.  I've grown fond of those orbs.  They keep the gargoyles away.

When we tried to leave.  Indrid was there.  He was pissed, but backed off when Creskin threatened to destroy it.  He keeps saying stuff that worries me.  Like before he vanished he said we might not be able to handle his beacon.  I'm guessing not.  He did tell us that body we found is a botched sacrifice.  Amateur hour he said.  Another dead end.  For being dead, Johnny V is one slippery SOB.

Now Urania Vandamaur, the reining queen of the wealth family, wishes to speak with us.  I've been clubbed by ghouls, attacked by gargoyles, bitten by hellish imps and traveled in a dimension of confusion, but now I got to do the hardest thing I've had to do since this investigation started...buy a tie.

Weird Adventures Character

Boris Brovsky is the name.  Don't know me?  How about Boris the Bagger.  Ahh, I see you've heard of that.  Most think I am a cold-blooded killer.  I am.  But that is not my only work.  I investigate pests.  The kind people don't want to talk about in public.  The kind that cause embarrassment.  They call me and I take care of the problem.  I find the source and slice it out.

I'm not a pretty boy like Heward.  Always strapping some junkie starlet on his arm, mugging for the camera.  While he stands among the famous I work in the alleys, sewers and more recently the graveyard.  I have no job beneath me, but there are some jobs I will not take.  Even if I've run out of snuff and shotgun shells to feed my beautiful Ivanka, my lever action shotgun.

Heward asked me and two others to transport a body.  It doesn't end there.  Heward never tells you everything.  He wants you to ask.  He wants you to go to him for the information.  Nothing feeds his ego more than asking.  I don't ask.  I let the turban wearing swami, Cresskin ask.

Cresskin and Diabolo seem okay.  They dress in tuxedos and silk suits, but even in $100 suits they still look poor.  I think it makes them look desperate.  But they aren't afraid to get their hands dirty and I can respect that.  I man without dirt on his hands is nothing but dame.

Anyway, Heward says ghouls are running about.  Left that little part out he did.  Even when we reached Barrow Island the Barrow Men seemed panicked.  I asked Mr. Graves, "If I put holes in them, do they die?"

He chuckled.  Guys like him who are knee deep in death all the time find things like this funny.  "Of course.  They're very much human except in their diet.  Well...most of them."

Good enough for me.  I tape my flashlight to Ivanka's barrel and say we go make some noise.

Game Night Not With the Newbs

Tonight is game night with the crusty, smelly vets.  That's why we play on-line so there is no funkification contamination.  We've only managed to get in one week this month.  Looking forward to grinding the vets again.

We left off as the party was arrested when they emerged from the destruction the Tarrasque caused.  I've got a few things planned for them.

On another front of gaming I bought the Lorefinder rules.  Trey is putting together a game for Weird Adventures and I want in.  So I am reading the GUMSHOE rules for the first time and enjoying them.  I can see the advantage of using them.  If...strike that...when I run a Weird Adventures adventure I think I would lean to GURPS as my system of choice.  I already know it and seems to be the best fit for all the genres found in WA.

My zine is going forward.  More on that in a separate post.

Mini post.  Lunch is over.

Review: Weird Adventures

...blues man scribing the perfect murder ballad in the jaundice hue of a street light.  I want to be a smuggler running bootleg alchemicals in a forest infested with shotgun wielding ogres and they are the least of my worries.  I want to be a photographer who captured a picture of oil para-elementals tearing apart a rigging crew and is now running from big oil.  Rumor is they hired a hit fiend to get to me before the pictures could be released.  I want to be a scholar who's discovered the gargoyles have collect treasures through every history and store them in a sacred mountain.  I want to play Weird Adventures in black and white, wear a hat and pretend I smoke.

Weird Adventures is a world setting that takes very interesting twists on our real world.  Set in a world where weird is not weird, but the normal.  Where Ripley's Believe It or Not mixes with Film Noir and pulp magazines.  It's a world where you need to big...huge or no one will notice you.  It's a place for big adventures and big ideas.

Trey has developed a world of some depth.  If you have every read his blog, From the Sorcerer'sSkull you know most of his posts are dedicated to the City and the surrounding world.  Nothing is out of bounds.  You can run this setting with pretty much any elements you can come up with.  The City is a playground to be explored and the wonders enjoyed.

I bought both the PDF and hardcover (actually two of them).  The books are gorgeous.  The artwork really enhances the content and you can tell they had a lot of fun.  Trey set up the book for easy reference, but I guarantee the first time you pick it up you'll read it cover to cover because it is a great read.  Then Trey added some great touches by adding mock advertisements.

I think Weird Adventures hits all the right notes.  If I did a rating system I would give it a 5 out of 5.  But I think the true test of a good gaming book is after you read it you want to play it.  And I want to play in The City.  I want to be...

Sick or Not, the Game Must Go On

Well, not my game.  I Cancelled last night's game and tonight's game.  Feeling better, going to work, but that's about all the strength I can manage, plus with the Whisk down I need to find her weird shows to watch.  Last night was a marathon of Extreme Couponers off of YouTube.  Man, some of those people are a bit, wow.

Anyway, gaming news at the manor.  Lots of great stuff has been coming out.  Still reading through Weird Adventures.  I plan on doing a more in depth review soon when I can sit at my computer for more than five minutes without passing out.  I read it and keep imagining all the cool characters I want to play.  Someone please DM this soon!

I also got Christian's Lovitar issue 7.  I had it for about 10 minutes before bug also found it.  Needless to say, issue #7 got its ass kicked.  A forest full of basilisks is no match for The Bug.  She keeps this up I am going to need to stat her up just below the tarrasque.  Despite Loviatar's apparent vulnerability to the Bug, I renew my subscription.  Damn zine is too fun to miss.  If you have the funds treat yourself.

Then to my surprice Jason Sholtis released his new zine, Zogorion Lord of Hippogriffs.  It looks to be an adventure module featuring Jason's great artwork including on kick ass map.  At $2 the artwork is more than worth that.  And if anyone follows Jason's new Dungeon Dozen blog you know its going to be a crazy adventure.

And lastly I got off the snide about ordering Land of Nod.  I got my first issue, issue #5 because that's the one about Medieval Mining, and I am really enjoying it.  I plan on scooping up more soon.

Okay, I am late for work.  Just for the record, Tuesdays suck in general.

Weird Adventures has Arrived, Bug Approved

I've been waiting for nearly a year for Trey to complete his Weird Adventures and tonight, the waiting has ended.  Bug wasn't even alive a year ago, but she endorses Weird Adventures.  So I had to get one for me and one for her.  My night is set, to read some of what Trey (of From the Sorcerer's Skull blog)  has to offer and then scour his blog and print another booklet of relevant posts that go along with his setting of The City.  I will do a more in-depth review in a later post.   Congratulations Trey.
