Unboxing the 2025 D&D Starter Set

I grabbed the 2025 Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set at Barnes & Nobles on Friday. An 'undented' copy.

Because it is a Starter Set  and meant to assist help new players and DMs get into the game I looked at it as if I were 10 years-old and also as myself as of today. There are differences in opinion.

  1. Good morning, Sir - don't let the name confuse you, I used to write under 'Mark K' of 'The Open Hearth', but things have changed, so the name you see is my 'pen' name, and my blog is now entitled, "Life in the Blogoverse" - turns out a local restaurant had been using the name, 'The Open Hearth' since the 1960's. So I thought it only polite for me to change.

That starter set is amazingly rich in content. I have the original D&D starter boxed set, albeit a bit rough around the edges now, but it had way, way, way less in it, and the dice were a pale blue plastic, and came supplied with a white wax crayon in order to detail the debossed numbers, and boy, were they light in weight - so-much-so a strong breeze could roll them off the table.

I've wandered away from a dedicated rpg blog, and now I tend to a bit of everything, sadly. My last role playing group was over two years back, during the lockdown era - and I ran the sessions over discord with use of webcams. It was a newbie group from my workplace at the local hospital, and it was fun while it lasted.

Great video, well presented and informative. Very nicely done, Sir.
Best regards from South Wales, UK.

    All the best,

    Mark K a.k.a. Tom Railin
