Anatomy of a Cavern

I do a lot of mapping and lot of adventure writing.  I try to be accurate with my terms and descriptions.  I found this on Wikipedia.  And I decided to post it to share, but also I can transform my post into a PDF to keep a print copy nearby.  You'll find the PDF button on the bottom of my post. Here is the direct link to the page:

Now go out and make a creepy cave adventure.

Mobile Mapping Headquarters

Yesterday I posted about about the wonderful gift +Mark Hassman sent me.  Today I'm showing you a live action shot of how it is being used.  This is a console in my vehicle.
  • Mark's mapping book fits perfectly in the slot.
  • A pencil holder.
  • A couple of pens, not so much for mapping for back of check signing or emergency defense.
  • A letter opener for when I get cool mail at the post and can't wait to get home to open it.  That little stem on the apple is fricking sharp and it cuts through stubborn tape quickly.
  • The mechanical pencil is my main mapping tool.  I make too many mistakes to not be erasable.
  • However, when I am feeling cocky, I have an extra Micron .005 pen.  I'll need to remove it in the winter.  Pens don't do so well in sub-zero weather, but I think I still have a couple of months before that.
This allows me to map and jot down idea while at lunch or just sitting in the car waiting for whatever.  It's almost like the Batmobile.

Map Comparisons: What Do You Think?

I was messing around with one of my more recent maps.  The one pictured below.

One of my typical maps.  But then I ran it through Paint.net program using Distort then Dents.

I like how it blends in the gray mist area with the cliff and how the water and trees get dispersed.  It looks a little more realistic to me in a way.  I don't know, just thought it looked cool.

New Toy

Went to buy a frame for the gorgeous map I got from +Zach Glazar from his Whisper & Venom boxset.  The frame was going to cost $360...and that was with a 65% coupon!  So I passed.  I'll Home Depot the shit out of a frame before I drop that kind of money.  Think of how much gaming stuff I could buy with that.  A little sticker shocked by the framing, I wandered around AC Moores saw they had Micron pan for sale, but had enough of those for now.  Then I saw this architectural stencil.  I had no choice to buy it.  It was $8 normally, but I had a 55% coupon.  This thing will save me a ton of time when I make villages and towns.  Looking forward to test driving this thing.
