Pulp Mill Press is Open for Submissions

+Sean Robson sent me an email where he confessed, he is a glutton for punishment and is going ahead with Libram Mysterium Vol. 2.  This volume will have a horror theme.  Here are the guidelines from the Pulp Mill Press blog.  Please, please read the guidelines.  Submit accordingly.  It's a huge pain in the ass when people sent single-spaced, weird font or hand-written manuscripts.  Respect the wishes of the editor who already has a very tough job of going through dozens of stories.  Sean is a grade A editor and does an incredible job.

He's accepting submissions until June 15th, 2014.

Appendix N+

A while back I had an idea to do a fiction anthology.  New fiction from gamer dudes to add their own flare to an Appendix N style stories.  While I considered the idea I didn't do much about it.  Then +Sean Robson asked if he could run with the idea.  Absolutely.  Collecting and editing a fiction anthology takes a ton of time and dedication.  Since I've been working on The Manor and adventure I didn't have near enough the spare time, nor the skill set to make it successful.  Sean took it upon himself to make it happen.  Titanic effort.  Libram Mysterium is the result.

Inside you'll find 13 stories of dark fantasy.  And the stories are accompanied by artwork from +Chris Conklin.  The result, it has a pulp era feel is, I believe, what Sean was going for.  The stories are good, very good.  All enhanced by the deft eye of the editor.

There are dozens of new gaming supplements that come out every week.  They get support in varying degrees.  I'd like to see some people get behind Libram Mysterium and support new fiction that is written with Appendix N in mind.  Sean is offering it in PDF format and in softcover print.

If you like weird, dark fiction (if you don't I'm not sure why your reading my blog) then grab a copy or two of Libram Mysterium.  Then spread the word.  It's worth talking about.

Artists Needed

+Sean Robson has been working his tail off and has gather an impressive batch of stories for Libram Mysterium.  He has the final draft and has begun layout.  What Sean needs is a few artists who love pulp style art.  He needs a cover and wants to include interior pieces.  If you are interested please contact Sean at pulpmill4(at)gmail(dot)com and he can give you the details.  I am really excited to see what Sean has come up with and I know its going to be good because I've had the pleasure of reading some of the stories already.

Libram Mysterium Update

I thought I would do an update on what is going on with Pulp Mill Press.  We've decided that Sean Robson would take over the reins of editor since he was already slashing away with his editor's blue pencil and doing an incredible job. 

The other news is we have our first batch of accepted stories.  If I am counting correctly we have four or five stories.  This is very good news.  To those on the fence, please give it a go.  All we ask is read the guidelines so when you submit your story we can enjoy reading it and not waste time reformatting.  There is still plenty of time to get you story in.  We are half way through our first month and still have another 45 days to go.  So start cranking out some fun fiction.

Another piece of information the group discussed was payment.  Things always get a little weird when money is involved.  Right now we are offering electronic copies of the book.  Why just this?  We are starting off with no money in this project and hope to build it.  And we didn't want to make a promise we couldn't keep.  This ain't your little brother's bogus Kickstarter.  After a very short discussion, because we all agreed, once we begin making sales we will figure out a payment for your stories.  Even if its only pizza and beer money we wanted to pay the people who have worked hard to make this book come alive.  Can I tell you how much it will be?  Nope.  Couldn't even guess.  We don't even have a book yet.

Submissions Open!

As of today, Boric G of the Dwarven Stronghold, Ken Harrison of The Rusty Battle Axe, Sean Robson of Tales from the Flaming Faggot and myself have formed Pulp Mill Press.

We are announcing that Pulp Mill Press is putting a fiction anthology together, short stories in the tradition of Appendix N, called Libram Mysterum.

We are looking for short stories with interesting characters and innovative plots.  If you are interested in submitting a story please read the guidelines first.  While all of us are very excited about the project, it is a lot of work, and following the guidelines will help streamline the process.

That's my official announcement.  On a more personal note this project came about on a whim, a wanting for more fiction like I used to read as a kid.  Today's fantasy fiction isn't something that speaks to me.  I used to eat my old fantasy books as soon as I bought them.  Today I'm lucky if I can get through the first chapter or two.  I'm not saying the fiction is bad, it just isn't for me.  This is a chance to get a large group of similar, well read individuals to produce new work based on a tradition that got us into gaming or inspired our gaming.   A real homage to Appendix N.

But this project couldn't have gone forward without the excitement of others and their willingness to do the work.  I'm hoping all the writers out there will submit a story or two.  We aren't sure how many stories will be in this volume, I'm guessing around fifteen.  And if you do have any question please just drop any one of us a line or all of us at pulpmillpress4@gmail.com.
