Blog Ambush and NaNoWriMo

Looks like the whisk has redecorated my blog while I was at work.  She giggled behind me as I brought up my page.  She likes that I don't like the spiders with the bows.  Then I found out she changed my icon when I comment on other people's blog.  And the title of my blog, Halloween Manor.  Apparently she had a lot of time on her hands yesterday.

At least there are no falling witches and ghosts.

Tomorrow starts NaNoWriMo.   I plan on doing it this year.  A few days ago I had no idea what I was going to write about, but now I've got a few ideas I think I'll run with.  It'll be a story based in the campaign world I'm building and this exercise will help me flesh out the world in more detail.  When I free write I come up with the nuances of cultures and customs that bring a world to life.  I won't go into much detail, one, because its bad mojo to talk about it before hand and two, I still know very little of what/who I'll be writing about.

Anyone else out there feeling brave and going to join this masochistic exercise?

Oh, and almost forgot.  Have a great Halloween!

  1. I like what Whisk has done with the place. You should keep it like this year-round! ;)

I'm doing NaNoWriMo, as well. This will be my second year, and I plan to take it a little more seriously this time. Hopefully, the resulting novel this time won't be a steaming pile of… well, you know.

Oh, that reminds me. I need to stock up on caffeine.

    1. Great to hear. I did NaNoWriMo a few years back. I think I got to 35k words, but I did continue to work on the novel after the month ended.

  2. I'm so torn between NaNoWriMo and NaGaDeMon - the end result being that I probably won't produce enough to "win" either. I basically have no plan other than to start writing tomorrow - maybe a solitaire dungeon crawl for Labyrinth Lord, maybe game related fiction, maybe world building.

    1. I think it would be great to do NaGaDeMon, but I'm not good at designing games. I leave that to the more able minds. Hope you share what you plan on doing.

  4. I think the new decor looks great, Tim. Good luck with NaNoWriMo!

BTW, the caption on that poster totally sounds like something Adzeer would say. :)

    1. Thanks Chris. And it sorta sounds like Adzeer's kid.

  5. Great new decor. Don't worry, so long as she's still giggling. The sound of "knife-on-whetstone" from behind is much worse! :D

NaNoWriMo won't see me again this year. I took last year off (after about 5 ears) and I'm going to have to take this year off as well. Just too much real life going on for me to be able to devote the kind of time I want/need to write. Good luck to you, though! I'm pulling for you!

    1. Sorry to hear work is still grinding you down. I'm kinda doing this because work is grinding me down. Helps me keep a little sane. But just a little.

  6. No falling pumpkins?

I do like the fuzzy smiling spiders. Nice touch, Whisk.

    1. I felt a little cheated that there were no obnoxious pumpkins floating from the ether and landing on my blog.

  7. I am toying of jumping into NaNoWriMo, problem I am running into is that I have many ideas but none are 50k in length. I may just end up writing a couple of short stories instead... NaShStWriMo?

    1. that would make you a NaNoRebel. They have their own forum on the site. Basically it's anyone not doing a "novel" (in their sense of the word) and/or not starting entirely fresh on 11/1.

    2. I'm thinking along the same line Matt. I'm not sure if it will be one 50k or maybe 5 10k stories. Either way I am good with it.

  8. Spiders are cool and the Steeler zombie is a nice touch.

    1. Thanks Alex. Yeah I like my Steeler zombie a lot, just wish they would stop playing like they were zombies.

  9. I've been looking at the NaNoWriMo web site. Not sure I'm going to do it, but I'm thinking about it.

Never heard of NaGaDeMon, until now. I'll look into it.

    1. It's a commitment. It gets tricky around the holiday. You need to set goals and work towards them each day and keep hydrated so you don't cramp up in the middle of a sentence.

  14. NaNoWriMo! You know, I've been playing with this idea of just diving into it this year, you know? Not thinking about it too much and therefore freaking myself out! Just diving in...anon!

  15. You are brave! And perhaps a tad masochistic. Well done.
